Hallberg's Picture of Health: Nigeria's polio outbreak, and eradicating the disease

Nigeria is dealing with an outbreak of polio — a disease that has been the target of eradication efforts for decades.

A vaccination campaign in Africa's most populous nation has been renewed, while the terror group Boko Haram is fighting to stop it.

The Washington Post reported last week that two kids were paralyzed by the disease, both living in areas cut off by the terrorists.

Dr. Jon Hallberg joined All Things Considered host Tom Crann to discuss what the outbreak means, and to give a primer on exactly what polio is.
